Colour Analysis

Colour analysis is the process of identifying the colours that naturally complement an individual’s skin tone, hair colour and eye colour. The aim is to create a personalised palette of colours that enhances natural colouring, helping people make more confident choices in clothing, accessories and cosmetics.

Whilst colour has been studied for centuries by artists, scientists and designers, modern personal colour analysis developed during the twentieth century into the systems widely recognised today. Over the years, several approaches to colour analysis have evolved. Whilst they all share the same fundamental principle, that certain colours harmonise more naturally with an individual’s colouring, each system categorises these colours in a slightly different way.

At Direct Colour International, we appreciate that every consultant works differently. We manufacture precision-dyed products for the most widely recognised colour analysis systems, whilst also supporting consultants who have developed their own bespoke methods. Whatever your preferred approach, our aim is to provide professionally manufactured products that deliver consistency, accuracy and longevity.

Colour analysis has continued to evolve over the years, and many consultants and training providers use slightly different terminology. For example, one system may refer to a palette as Bright, whilst another uses Clear. Likewise, Soft may also be described as Muted, and some 12 Season systems use alternative names or ordering for their seasonal palettes.

Whilst the terminology may differ, the underlying principles and colour characteristics remain largely the same. Throughout this page, we have used some of the most widely recognised terms for simplicity.
